Runaway cat search tips

Cats have a will of their own and are also masters at hiding, which can make finding a missing pet extremely difficult. If the cat goes missing, the emotional shock is great. What should you do if your beloved companion is missing? In this article we give you some tips for the search.

Determining which category the cat belongs to 

First of all, a distinction must be made between whether an indoor cat has escaped or an outdoor cat has not been home for an unusually long time. While indoor cats are often frightened by the outside world, the opposite is often the case with outdoor cats: they are curious and explore their surroundings extensively. With both, it can happen that out of fear or curiosity they get themselves into situations from which they can no longer free themselves.

Tips for the search. 

First of all, you have to search for it yourself. Make sure that the cat is not really hiding in its own flat. Sometimes four-legged friends sit on or under cupboards and appear to have been swallowed by the floor.

If your cat is missing, inform your neighbours. Ask them to look in basements, garages and garden sheds. It is not uncommon for a cat to slip through a door or window and not be able to get out on its own.

Distribute wanted notices to your neighbours and post them in the neighbourhood. Your flyer should contain the following elements: a large, clear headline, a large photo with your cat clearly visible, a description of your cat, and contact information.

If the call search did not work, try to attract your cat. You can do this by placing a litter mark in front of your front door, for example. This is especially useful for runaway house cats, as it allows them to pick up their own scent and find their way home.
