In case a student dies during the course of his study, HKBK College of Engineering pays the insurance amount to the parent.

WHEN G. MUKESH, a second year engineering student, died in a road accident, his family was shattered. The trauma of having to endure the death of his young son notwithstanding, his father faced the prospect of spending all his life paying back the huge loan taken for the professional education of his son.
But his father was saved from that ordeal. A student of the HKBK College of Engineering, Nagavara, Mukesh was insured through a scheme initiated by his college. Within a week of his death, his father received a cheque of close to Rs.2 lakhs, thanks to this scheme.
The "Student Safety Insurance for Professional College Students" programme is a unique scheme initiated by the HKBK College of Engineering for its students in collaboration with the United India Insurance Company. Each student has to pay a premium of Rs.125-Rs.250 per year for the time that he is in the college.
In the event of the death of the student during his study in the college, his parents or guardian will receive the amount for which the policy was insured. The insurance cover may be upto Rs.5 lakhs.
"Professional education is very expensive these days and students and parents have to go through a lot of hardship to pay for an engineering or medical education. Most of the students take loans to pay the fees. If a student meets with an accident or dies owing to some tragedy, the parents have to bear the burden of paying the loan amount all their lives. With this in mind, we decided to insure all our students for a nominal premium of not more than Rs.250. This way, in case there is such a tragedy, the parent or guardian gets the amount that the policy holder has been insured for," said Abdul Hameed, Administrator of the college.
