WELCOME TO THE DEPARTMENT OF MECHANICAL EGINEERING
Mechanical Engineering is one of the major activities in the engineering profession and its principles are involved in the design, study, development and construction of all the physical devices and system. Continued research and development have led to better machines process helping the mankind.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering was established in 1997 with affiliation to Bangalore University with an initial intake of 45 students. Presently the department is affiliated to Vivesvaraya Technological University (VTU). The present intake for the undergraduate programme is 90 students. The faculty to student ratio is 1:14, Mechanical Engineering emphasizes on Design, Materials & Manufacturing, Thermal Engineering and also interdisciplinary areas like CAD/CAM/CAE, Automation, Operational Research, Mechatronics, FEM, Managerial aspects of industry etc.
The faculty members are grouped under three broad specialization- Design, Manufacturing and Thermal & Fluid Engineering. They have been engaged in various research activities in all the classical areas of Mechanical Engineering and upcoming areas too. Experimental and computational facilities are being continuously upgraded. Industry interaction has been increased with several undergraduate courses being offered to industry participants and many students working in industry-sponsored projects.
